The Fatih Tekke era ends at Trabzonspor: club parts company with its head coach
Trabzonspor parted company with head coach Fatih Tekke after a 2-1 away defeat to Amed Sportif Faaliyetler. Hüseyin Çimşir takes temporary charge while the search for a permanent appointment continues.
The turbulent days in Trabzonspor's dugout have moved into a new act. Fatih Tekke announced his resignation live on air on 27 August after a 4-0 away defeat to Ferencváros ended their UEFA Europa League play-off tie, but the Trabzonspor board declined to accept it, saying the decision had been taken in the emotional intensity created by the match.
Tekke stayed on after the resignation was rejected and took the team to Amed Sportif Faaliyetler (Amedspor) in the Süper Lig. When Trabzonspor lost that match 2-1 as well, several sports outlets reported that the board had this time decided to part company with the head coach; the development was reported at around 17:00 on Tuesday 1 September 2026.
Asked about resigning after the match, Tekke said: "I am not running from responsibility. If Trabzonspor can rise as they did on the day I first arrived, they will rise from here too."
Tekke spent around 18 months in charge of Trabzonspor from the start of the 2025-26 season. According to Anadolu Agency, the separation was reached by mutual agreement following a meeting between vice-president Serkan Kılıç and Tekke; both sides agreed that "a new road map needed to be drawn in line with Trabzonspor's interests and long-term objectives". The club's statement highlighted Tekke's contribution to squad development, the Turkish Cup title and his sporting and financial contributions to the club, saying he would be remembered with respect.
UPDATE (1 September 2026, 20:04): according to a new statement from Trabzonspor, former head coach Hüseyin Çimşir will prepare the team on a temporary basis for the Gençlerbirliği match on Sunday 6 September. The board announced that the search for a permanent head coach continues and that the work is proceeding carefully; no official announcement has been made on a permanent appointment.
FutbolRadar's assessment: the file has moved from "resignation debate" to "managerial change". The remaining question is who Trabzonspor's permanent head coach will be; this story will be updated once the name is confirmed.
